One of the things we hear from legislators in St. Paul is that they don't hear from the public about the need for school funding to be maintained. Other issues, such as a new Vikings stadium get a good deal of publicity and comment.
If school funding is reduced for Minnesota Schools, there will be hundreds, if not thousands of teaching jobs lost.
Our people representing Central Public Schools are Senator Julianne Ortman, (651)296-4837 or sen.julianne.ortman@senate.mn and Representative Ernie Leidiger, (651)296-4382 or rep.ernie.leidiger@house.mn. I encourage you to take part in government and contact these people regarding the need for at least continued funding of our schools.
Central Public Schools currently operates with a $500 per pupil operating levy, which is roughly half of the state average at this time. Our board does a great job taking care of tax payer's dollars and this is one reason our levy is comparatively low. We have managed to stay ahead of the budget even with flat funding from the state in the past four years.
